Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Nestled among the pools and palm trees on the Las Vegas Strip, we find the dirtiest dining this week. It's a place where Contact 13 Chief Investigator Darcy Spears found them trying to keep their C grade a secret.17 South Booze and Bites didn't make the grade at it's May 21 health inspection. There's a picture to prove it.PHOTOS: 17 South Booze & BitesThe bar has an A but the restaurant inside Tahiti Village resort on South Las Vegas Blvd. got a 38-demerit C grade.Only you wouldn't know it if you showed up when we did.During our visit on Tuesday we saw two A grades. But the date on the grade card for the grill is from almost a year ago--July, 2014--and it's not their current grade.Darcy: We're here because you guys are on Dirty Dining this week for the 38-demerit C grade from the Health District and we'd just like to get your side of the story--kind of explain why they found all the violations.
Supervisor: I'm actually not available to comment on any of that. So you can speak with the other people from Summerpoint or from Tahiti Village.
Darcy: Are they in charge of the restaurant?
Supervisor: They are the ones who would be able to comment on any of that specifically. The specifics of the health inspection are improper hand-washing, a freezer condenser dripping onto an open bag of fries and Inadequate hot water.Inspectors also say shredded cheese and hot dogs had to be thrown out because they were at unsafe temperatures.Turkey breast was thawing in the sink with no water.Tongs were stored in an unsanitary manner--hanging on the splash guard of the hand-sink.And a food handler filled a sanitizer bucket directly over food in the sink.We waited around for awhile, but they couldn't find anyone to talk to us.There was also one imminent health hazard closure: Mr. Beijing on Flamingo and Swenson was shut down for repeat violations and conditions that may endanger public health.Inspectors found two-month-old food, lots of stuff at unsafe temperatures and food improperly stored. After a week, Mr. Beijing was approved to open with zero demerits. 17 South Booze and Bites sent the following written statement:“We are embarrassed by this most recent inspection and have taken immediate corrective actions to re-establish our A rating. Our prior inspection in November of 2014 achieved an A rating. We are presently in compliance with health department regulations, have addressed each and every violation that was identified, and have requested a re-inspection. Our staff erroneously displayed both our A and C rating cards during the last two weeks in which the C rating carded was not prominently displayed, we apologize for that mistake and have corrected it.The remedial actions we have undertaken include a change in kitchen leadership and retraining of all culinary staff. These measures were implemented by our new food and beverage general manager, Tom McGrath, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. We are certain his years of experience will ensure the highest kitchen standards are met moving forward. We are fully committed to providing the best possible customer service in the future.”
